I impart this essential piece of information to ALL where and when I can. What should I wear to my first fertility appointment – the answer to this question may seem unimportant.
After all, the fertility appointment can reveal the chances of pregnancy and what steps are needed to get the results you want – a baby!
But with a million questions running through your head about what to ask at the fertility clinic.
Who the heck cares, when this question is asked?
This post will explain – Why the jumpsuit is not your friend when it comes to answering the question; what should I wear to my first fertility appointment?
Can Nothing Really Go Wrong When You’re Wearing A Jumpsuit?
Well, wearing impractical clothes that take time to remove and put back is not only faffy.
But is guaranteed to make a stressful and emotional appointment even more stressful and emotional.
The Jumpsuit is not your friend when considering what clothes to wear to your fertility appointment.
As the famous Jumpsuit Myth goes….
Well – this is not entirely true!
Imagine this…
You’re wearing your favourite jumpsuit ✨ and feeling empowered.
You have a bra or crop top underneath and you’re wearing comfortable grannie pants! 🩲
It’s your turn to go into the fertility clinic and the doctor says….
👩⚕️ Okay, so let’s examine you. Please remove your clothes including your bottom half underwear.
The shoes come off, so does the jumpsuit and so does the grannie pants!
You’re left wearing the bra/ crop top only! 🤦🏻♀️
It’s NOT the end of the world!
BUT can you see that the jumpsuit is not your friend when you want to know: what should I wear to my first fertility appointment?
This Should Not Be On Your IVF Must Haves List – Jumpsuits Are Crouch Eaters! ❌
The Jumpsuit offers both inconvenience and discomfort for a fertility appointment.
Not to mention that jumpsuits are potential crouch eaters.
Don’t get me wrong there is nothing better than seeing someone rock a jumpsuit!
They look cool and like they mean business! 😎
But during fertility treatment, you’re going through so much – especially in the vaginal area.
You have to ask the question, do I really need something extra diving into my crouch?!
Also, the problem with the jumpsuit for a fertility appointment is, that it’s all one piece.
Anyone who’s ever worn one and been to the toilet wearing it will know it takes ages to remove it.
And when it is off and the knickers come off too, you’re left partially naked and in a pretty vulnerable position.

Unlike The Jumpsuit the top should offer no challenges during the appointment and should help you stay Fertility Appointment Ready!
The Top
Think,
- V Neck Tops
- Square Necks
- Scoop Necks
- Oversized Shirts That Can Be Layered
No products found.
Let’s talk about breathable fabrics:
- Bamboo – Helps regulate your body temperature, and are super comfortable and soft.
- Cotton – Doesn’t cling to your skin and is breathable.
- Linen – Does absorb sweat away from the body – (but does show sweaty bits). Linen shirts are great for layering.
NOT so great options are:
- Shirts with lots of buttons – unless for layering and great to be worn open with a top underneath.
- Bodysuits that have faffy poppers
- Tight-fitting tops -including vests and T-shirts.
Bottoms
- Loose fitting
- Warm
- A wide-leg trouser is great as they are easy to put on and take off with little effort.
- Leggings.
During the fertility appointment, the clinic is likely to perform a transvaginal ultrasound scan.
The scan uses a probe that’s lubricated with a gel and gently inserted into the vaginal. The scan can be a little uncomfortable.
As your IVF cycle continues the amount of transvaginal scans will become more frequent as the clinic will want to see how your follicles (sacs containing eggs) are responding to medication.
Wearing separates such as a loose-fitting top and cozy trousers is a must.
– As Opposed To A Jumpsuit- Separates make life a lot easier, when it comes to the first appointment with a gynaecologist for fertility treatment.
Underwear
A soft and comfortable bra will maintain comfort during the appointment.
Avoid sports bras or tight-fitting crop tops. If you’re anything like me, fertility appointments make me hot and a bit sweaty.
Putting on a tight sports bra or crop top under pressure isn’t great!
Socks
Your socks will not need to be removed during the appointment.
So wear something Soft and Comfortable to keep you nice and warm.
Staying warm during the IVF cycle is important – especially when you get to the embryo transfer. Staying warm helps promote good blood circulation. Some IVFers will even wear Lucky Socks often featuring a Pineapple – which is a fertility symbol.
Footwear
Next, on the IVF must haves list is footwear. Comfort and easy-to-remove footwear is a must for a fertility appointment.
Slip-on shoes are quick and easy on and off!
Consider wearing trainers or sneakers with a slip-on feature.

- Privacy – Layering can help provide an extra piece of coverage as well as keep you warm if it’s a bit chilly.
- Choice of Colour – If you’re like me and get hot and sweaty opt for a dark colour that camouflages sweaty patches!
- Pineapple and Fertility – The pineapple is the symbol of fertility in the TTC community. Wear your pineapple with pride on socks, a t-shirt or perhaps as jewellery! 🍍
